Marya Grambs is Executive Director of Mental Health America of Hawai`i. She has spent the last 30+ years as a nonprofit organization founder and director , community leader, trainer/facilitator, journalist, and organizational consultant on issues relating to mental health; women, children, and youth; violence prevention; poverty reduction; and health. Her work has been local, national, and international in scope, and she has also written extensively for the media. In recognition of her accomplishments, she received citations from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and the California Senate and Assembly, the 50 th Anniversary Leadership Award from the San Francisco Foundation, and the Gloria Steinem Award for Women's Leadership from the Ms Foundation in New York. |

Born and raised in Hawa`i. A mother of two and grandmother of five.
Received her B.A. from University fo Hawaii - Manoa and her M.F.A. from New York University.
Served in Hawai`i State Legislature, first as State Representative then as State Senator.
Subsequently served as Lt. Governor under George Ariyoshi from 1978 to 1982.
Currently also a member of the Advisory Council and the Board of the Interfaith Alliance Hawai`i.
